HK update

Gah...neck pain...
ok,nevermind,here's a short blog entry for the time being.

First impressions:
-HK really has a looooooooooot of cabs. More cabs than cars.Later one of the cabbies told us it's because the fuel is expensive,but i think it's also because there are too many people in Hk,so if everyone has a car then the traffic jam can bertanding with KL.Oh,and most of the buses are double deckers
-HK has too many people.Looks like those tourist photos of Tokyo.Especially in the evenings.When I'm pissed out i like imagining someone detonating a bomb in TsimShaTsui at 7.00pm...
-Housing is very expensive because of lack of land.Waterfront apartments that are very tiny still can sell for a few million.There is no such thing as single or double storey houses,even the Mercedes kaki all stay in apartments.
-The shop attendants and waiter/esses are usually very rude at peak hours.
-The public transport and amenities are very good.Especially the parks because they have a lot of water features and aviaries,some even have mini zoos.
-HK food is like Malaysian Chinese cooking.So nothing especially exciting.Except the smelly taufu which really was very smelly and we didn't dare to try.It's very popular though.
-The guys know how to choose good hairstyles man...and the women know how to do makeup very well.And all of them are very fashionable.Louis Vuitton and Bally goods everywhere you look.
-HKees and Malaysian Chinese look similar so they will always speak to you in Cantonese and ask you for directions if you are one.

Day 1

Arrived at the guest house at 11.00 so we just went for supper and then slept.lol...The guest house was run by an Indonesian Chinese guy,so can speak BM to him and the staff.The room (including the bathroom)we had was only about the size of my bedroom but shared by 3 people.

Day 2
Went to Lantau Island to see the Tien Tan Buddha statue.Went there the long way: 2 ferries and 2 buses up Happy Tree Friends looking narrow mountain roads.

Lantau island,where everyone cycles.There's even a bike carpark.
A fishing village we passed  by on the way to the statue.
A gateway at the temple.
hahah...sadly this is the only HK guy I managed to photograph(by accident,i wanted to photograph the pillar but this guy suddenly popped out for a pose) too bad because HK guys are quite good looking...T-T
The Buddha statue,up 260 steps.
What goes up must come down.Here's the view coming down the statue.Oh well,at least not as tiring as the going up part...
One of the carved pillars outside one of the prayer halls.

We wanted to come down the mountain by cable car but the service was stopped due to an accident earlier on. From the news,we heard that the services reopened the next week after repairs and upgrades.

Oh yeah...and we saw a gay marriage on Lantau Island too.lol...We assume it was lah,coz there wasn't any bride...

Coming soon...
Day 2 and more pix

Comic Fiesta

Yesterday I went to CF,the first time in a very long time.The admission ticket was rm10,seems that they increased the entry price again,i can still remember the time when admission was completely FOC.

Anyways,me,Sook and her friends arrived at around 10.30 and waited in line for the tickets.Already the line was like Sook's "Secret Recipe experience" and still growing.We were waiting for 11.00 which was supposed to be the opening time,but actually we only were allowed to enter at 11.15.Wonderful Malaysian timing.Even the booth owners were only allowed in at 11.05.Taiyaki had to open quite late compared to the rest of the booths,but luckily the booth behind us was empty so we sort of got free booths that can seat all our members.

What I noticed this year is that there were so many cosplayers,maybe 1/3 of the people who attended CF.I remember there were some people dressed as Ban and Ginji from Get Backers, Sephiroth and Vincent from FF,a TV and a Pocky *sweatdrop* and about a few million goths,including one guy dressed as Gothic Lolita and some small boys with eyeliner(Anisa was happy)Oh yeah,and the SWAT guy who I thought was some Malaysian police coming to stop another fake riot.

Later Sook pointed out that there are so many famous people near the Taiyaki booth- KidChan next door,whose books were selling out and flowing like water eventhough it was one of the more expensive merchandise being sold (Rm45 I think)even when she just opened the booth there was a big flock of people waiting already.Then there were YonGumi(one of the earliest groups in CF,i think they are one of only 3 groups that participated in the first year of CF) on the other side of us,and Kamcao behind us as well.

The whole day I was sitting at the booth just drawing manga and waiting to be commissioned,although not expecting to be commissioned.As it happened i really wasn't commissioned,but JJ.who was sitting next to me,got 3 or 4 requests.What was really,really sad was that,eventhough JJ is an artist with her own style and ideas,all,or nearly all the people who commissioned her wanted her to draw anime/game characters from references,which basically defeats the purpose of asking for commissions.Why not just photostat or photoshop and print right?

So I was drawing at the booth until around 5.00 when I had to go back for dinner.By then I was getting a headache from the sound of the loud music/irritating DJ/huge crowds.I couldn't use my iPod because of the loudness too.When I reached the train station just outside Times Square I got another "Secret Recipe experience".People were lining up for tickets an spilling off onto the side stairs.I regretted not buying a 2 way ticket earlier on.Nevermind,lesson learnt.However,later there was no way to avoid the huge crowd in the train.People were literally trying to pack into the train like sardines.I was holding a huge file,a huge bag,an a huge drawing board,so it wasn't a very pleasant experience.Halfway,I experimented on letting go of my drawing board to see if it would drop.It didn't.Also,my super seme drawing board got stuck in between a lot of people's legs and probably castrated a few people as well,which was satisfying to my sadist side of the brain...

Oh,which reminds me,I saw a shop called S n M in Times Square.And I thought SnJ was suggestive enough.

In conclusion CF was ok,but not something I would go to ever year,what with the crowds and the yearly-expensifying entry fee.Although somehow I think the best cosplayer of the day was the TV. Behold, otakus, the source of all your happiness.

some kind of nocturnal creature

hohoho...i'm typing this entry at 4.33am.Yesterday I slept at 8.30pm i think.That's probably some kind of new record for me for erratic sleeping times.Before this my regular sleeping time was 2.00am,thanks to crunchyroll...

And then because of my erratic sleeping times,my eating schedules also all changed,usually I eat all 3 meals at more or less regular times,nowadays I have 1 brunch and one dinner and may or may not have one supper sneakily.

Oh well,today will be a busy day.Later I'll have to pack my bags for Hong Kong and clean up my room until my mom certifies it with a cleanliness cert, A class.

This is what I'm watching now.lol...I couldn't help it,the poster is so hot...

of Kari kepala Mawi and other bad advertisements

I dunno why,but recently I've been noticing a lot of bad advertisements.Let's start with the one in the title.

1) At first it was Mawi's face all over the ugly packaging and all over the van.Nothing unusual as most things had Mawi's face plastered all over it in the period after Akademi fantasia finished that season.But mawi's face isn't all that appetising nor is it capable of making anyone salivate,so I don't think it's suitable to promote food right? What I'm talking about of course, is Mamee mee.Now they have a really stupid tagline with the Akademi Fantasia gang."Bila dah glamor,slluuuuurrrrppppppp saja lah" or something like that. That's by far the stupidest tagline I've ever heard.So they think that fame allows you to be as rude as you want? Or is bad table manners now very hip?

Mawi eating mamee mee at a neighbouring table:"Slllllllluuuuuurrrrrppppppp" bits of noodles and saliva fly everwhere.*Slow motion effect.*

Fangirl at neighbouring table:*swoon**pikapika eyes effect*

Mawi:turns to audience "Bila dah glamor,slllllluuuuurrrrrrrrrrppppppp saja lah!" *Thumbs up**Winks eye*

In the first place,I dunno what is so great about mawi anyways.He cannot sing,he's not good looking,he's not charming. He doesn't even have stable morals,according to my mum,because he left his girlfriend when he achieved fame.My personal opinion is that Malaysia has too few talented singers,so we have to make do with the less than mediocre ones and make a big hype over them to cover up their shortcomings. However,it is funny that I found this yesterday:The stuff of well deserving celebrities:

2)Amber Chia. Everyone knows just how overused her face is. Yet another overrated celebrity,I've only yet seen her use one expression for every single advertisement she models for. But it was rather suspicious that she's the ambassador for Celebrity Fitness and yet today i saw an advertisement of her promoting a slimming drink. Did she give up on exercising and turn to Smart Shop-like miracle cure scams?

3)The next one,I forgot the brand.It is a radio advertisement.I think it's white horse."My friends think I have great taste. But I know better.I use White Horse ceramic tiles" That's bad copywriting thru and thru. It's implying that the woman has disastrous taste,so she has to rely on the tiles company to impress her guests.

I don't want to be like that woman.

4)Next one,yet another radio advertisement.A community awareness message with good intentions but either bad copywriting or bad reading.The one about finning.Can't remember the whole script,just that the reading sounded wierd no matter how many times I listened to it.I think they stopped playing that ad already.

5)last one,another radio ad. This time it's bad recording,eventhough yes,the advertisement was a bit flimsy too.
Woman:(something about having to pay for her new house)
Husband:"And home sweet home,I only bought one pair of shoes"
*unknown sound,Until today I'm wondering if it really is the sound of a sliding car door,or maybe it's sliding something across a table a la manga style
Husband:"Sorry,I lied,I bought socks too."
Woman:*Sudden change of accent* "You knew It'd upset the house."

I wonder what that sound effect in the middle was and why the woman changed her accent from "normal Malaysian wife" to "70's American calendar girl" so quickly

Sunday, December 9, 2007

oh,look,I found a gothic rock band that seems to be very Anne Rice inspired:

but the lyrics are quite meaningless lah,so I'm not interested.

Nodame Cantabile!!

Nouuuu.......I finished watching Nodame Cantabile on Crunchyroll!!How now??They need to make a second series!!!

**Fangirl mode**

I think the series just made me rediscover an interest for classical music.So I need to like replace my daily 1 hour of NC by downloading classical music kaokao.

The main character Nodame.Somehow I didn't expect the manga to look like that.lol...Nodame is like the most slapstick character around and I'm surprised I didn't think it was lame this time.

Chiaki.Don't you just love his wierd habit of twitching his lips...*nudges Talissa*

edit:I just noticed he looks like Gary from certain angles.

Mine.My favourite character in the series.He plays electric violin!!!And really emo-ly too!!!That's a reason enough for me.But besides that he's prolly the whole soul of the orchestra isn't he?I like Mine papa too.lol...such a sporting dad.

Timpani player;Masami.(correct right?) Gotta love that hair man...Ties with Mine as my favourite character.He's Chiaki's gay bodyguard.That's reason enough.lol...
The very fake looking and perverted Stressemann with a really irritating accent.lol.Should I speak like him too? "Aaa...stay-key na piano days-neigh?"(suteki na piano desu ne)
Sakura,the contrabase girl.Her contrabase is prolly 2 or 3 times the size of her body and her voice is so high pitched.
And finally,the piano teacher guy who's name I cannot remember.I hated his character at first but in the end he was just a really dedicated teacher."This is the shape of my love"-indicating a paper fan he uses to beat up random students.

Update

Ohohohohohohhhhhoooo.....it's been a long time since I've been updating about myself.What have I been up to?

-I discovered that the bus trip back from 1 Utama to Carrefour bus stop takes freaking 3 hours.I'm never gonna go to 1U ever again if nobody fetches me home.

-I've been trying on more dresses yesterday ,compared to when i was looking for a dress for my sister's wedding dinner.Thanks to Sook Cheng, Xia Xun, Yen Kaye and Siao Chen aka the gila group.My feet were still painful the next morning from all the walking.

- went to Pay Less Books' warehouse sale today at 3K and bought 3 art related books and a story book for RM34.Not bad lah i think.With RM34 I can only buy 1 book from MPH.With sale.I calculated that one of the books was roughly RM60 originally but after becoming second hand and getting a further 50% discount it was sold for RM9.

-Watched Enchanted and Beowulf.Enchanted was quite good.The main character was so innocent I dunno whether wanna laugh or cry for her.And the chipmunk...can I kidnap the chipmunk?Beowulf...the animation was not bad.But the storyline was quite weak.Sook Cheng said it was based on a folklore poem but they changed it a lot.I think they just made the whole storyline more perverted...

-finally got my Japanese exchange student on msn...aih...after 1 whole year...
~~~~~~
And about the community project:
The cards and presents looked really good.I was tempted to steal a few(anyway we had too many right...)Tali,Joe,JJ,Yunzi,Zhi Ni especially should just go and sell their stuff and use the money to buy presents for the kids...
-All went quite well.There was no performances though,because the person who would be playing guitar could not come.Only Hafiz came to the hospital.
-Stupid bratty kid took almost all of my 21 bookmarks.And 2 of Dom's box toys.I can't belief it.All my hard effort gone to some idiot kid who prolly doesn't deserve it.I mean,if a sweet kid took it and asked first I wouldn't mind.I should have just followed my instinct earlier and saved a few of the best ones to send to my foster siblings in Japan.I really did plan to do that you know...
-we almost walking into a room when one of the kids was pantless(yes,it was a boy).Anisa was rather delighted.
- The breast milk pump in the breast feeding room just looks really brutal.Looks like some torture device you know.Oh yeah,now I know why it looks so familiar.It looks like the result of an intimate relationship between my mom's fruit juicer(blender) and the pool(pump) cleaning machine.
-Also,I found out that the hospital staff are not as hardware savvy as us...
Hello everybody.Thanks for your help for the community project yesterday.I'm sure the hiospital staff and patients value your effort greatly.
And as they say,what goes around comes around.For your effort, Sunway Medical Centre will be printing some certs for all of you who participated.And in addition to that some of you probably have been able to learn something new too; origami,ideas for crafts and practising your rusty FA and design,or at least rediscovering what kind of paper and artsy fartsy crap you have hidden around your house..And meet new friends.At least I did anyway.
Pinky also thinks that we should do something like this again next year.Any comments for future projects??
Any misunderstandings are not my fault
ATTENTION ALL PARTICIPANTS FOR THE COMMUNITY PROJECT
Please read the emails that I sent to you VERY CAREFULLY.Any misunderstandings about the project are not in the least bit my fault.
I found out today that a lot of you still do not know that the cards are NOT christmas cards, they are get well cards.But DO NOT write 'Hope you get well soon' in the cards as some patients are terminally ill.Be neutral and write something like 'Hope you are feeling better today'.
Also, the distribution will be held at SUNWAY MEDICAL CENTRE not SJMC. Be very clear of this,if you end up in the wrong venue on the distribution day,that's up to you to clear your own problem.It is the hospital next to Sunway College/Monash and behind The One Academy. We will be meeting up at the entrance at 10am.
Here's the list of people who will be joining the distribution:
1)myself
2)Ong Yi Lyn
3)Joyce Teh Yen Yee
4)Dominic Chin
5)Chew Zhi Ni
6)Mohd. Najib
7)Lim Jei Juin
8)Sabrina Ong
Once again,please cooperate and check your email often. I have 20+ people on my list and I have to phone/sms/msn/email every one of them on a nearly daily basis.
As most of you know,Pinky has helped us to get permission from Sunway Medical Centre and they have agreed to let us have our distribution at their paediatric ward.The date for distribution is not confirmed yet.
We will be making an average of 3 cards each.Some members will also be making bookmarks,puzzles,paper weights and origami.Pinky might help to find some TOA students to perform some songs for the children as well.
edit:
here's a site that Sook recommended to me for ideas:
also,I found this amusing,and i'm thinking of printing a few of these,but it might be a bit expensive
~~~~~~
Also,I have sent an e mail to SJMC to ask for permission for our project.

I am Tang Yeen Yee, a first year student at The One Academy. My fellow college mates and I would like to organize a  community project at your hospital in December. We plan to have a greeting card distribution programme for you patients with the aim of spreading cheer to them over the coming holiday season.

 In this project, 14 of my college mates plan to hand make greeting cards for free. Then, we hope to hand out the cards in person to your patients. The idea for this project came about when we came to know about a similar project that is currently being organized in the United States by an art community called DeviantArt., thus we decided that it would be more convenient for Malaysians who want to join the project to have their own project here in Malaysia.

 Here is a link to the original DeviantArt newsletter containing information about their project.

http://news.deviantart.com/article/37010/

 We would like to ask the management of your hospital for permission to run this project and ideally have a prior meeting with your management to discuss our plan.

 Sincerely,

Tang Yeen Yee.

HOLIDAY COMMUNITY PROJECT

I'm having a community project.It is similar to one being done currently by deviantArt. The plan is to handmake greeting cards to be sent to hospital patients( for those who want to join but are not in Selangor, you can sent files to be printed at last resort,or if your cards are CG work,although this would be more expensive, and less significant to the recepients).

Since dA's headquarters are in the US,it is not convenient nor cost efficient for us Malaysians to send our cards to the US to be distributed,so I'm having a card making and distributing project here,ideally at Subang Jaya Medical Centre, which is both near where I live and near TOA.

The aim of the project is to spread some cheer to the hospital patients over the year end holiday. We will distribute the cards around the new year. The cards are a sort of get well card,but please DO NOT write messages such as 'get well soon' as some patients are terminally ill.Write more neutral messages such as 'have a good day' or 'hope you are feeling better'.

Currently,I have 8 members including myself that have agreed to join this project:
-Yi Lyn
-Simone
-Dom
-Talissa
-Joe
-Joyce
-Alex

This project is NOT confirmed yet.I am still waiting for replies from other people and still do not know the exact number of participents.However,after I am sure, I will still have to send an e mail to the hospital management to ask for permission to send out the cards as well as have a door to door personal delivery of the cards. If they agree to meet us,we will have to go to the hospital personally to ask for permission,only after that can we proceed with the project.

Please spread the word to anyone who you think might be interested to join the project,after all one person can only make a few cards but there are so many patients.

Artistic ability is only second to your good intentions,and we do not necessarily have to make cards, other ideas such as delivering balloons or poems and just chatting to patients is also welcome, so do not worry about making a good looking card or anything.

You Are 20% Girly
Um... you're a guy, right? If not, you're the most boyish girl in the world. And for you, that's probably the ultimate compliment.

You Are 83% Pure
You're so pure ... you make a nun look like a whore! There's a lot of life's dark side left for you to experience... if you want to.

Who Should Paint You: Andy Warhol
You've got an interested edge that would be reflected in any portrait You don't need any fancy paint techniques to stand out from the crowd!

You Are 8% Homophobic
You're open minded, tolerant, and accepting. And you're not homophobic in the least :-)

You Are 75% Creative
You are beyond creative. You are a true artist - even if it's not in the conventional sense of the word. You love creating for its own sake, and you find yourself quite inspired at times.

You Are Artemis!
Brave, and a natural born leader. You're willing to fight for what you believe in... And willing to make tough decisions. Don't forget - the people around you have ideas too!

What Your Handwriting Says About You
You are highly energetic. You are a passionate, intense, vigorous person. You are very extroverted and outgoing. You are loving, friendly, and supportive. However, you are also manipulative and controlling at times. You are very detail oriented and meticulous. You are a careful thinker and a true intellectual. You need a lot of space in your life, and it's easy for you to feel stifled. You avoid commitment and responsibility whenever you can. You are somewhat traditional, but you are also open to change. You listen to your head and your heart. You are a poor communicator. No one really knows exactly what you're getting at.

You Are Expressionism
Moody, emotional, and even a bit angsty... you certainly know how to express your emotions. At times, you tend to lack perspective on your life, probably as a result of looking inward too much. This introspection does give you a flair for the dramatic. And it's even maybe made you cultivate some artistic talents! You have a true artist's temperament... which is a blessing and a curse.

Oh look, I just found this new typing option         oh,wait....option lol I shall play with it a bit now then. I think blogging will become a lot more fun for me now .OK, what else should I type about next? I'm running out of words to blog.

the holiday schedule

Hohohoh...yesterday I decided once and for all that it was indeed possible to finish and submit my entries for a dA costume competition. So I very cleverly stayed up until 3.00am colouring the entries, which I think is more bersemangat than what I put in for my college final projects. Too bad the scanning butchered one of the entries, but now I don't really care,at least I managed to complete one of my online projects that I promised other people I would finish.

Then this morning/afternoon I woke up at 11.00am and felt like sleeping again by the end of brunch...but somehow I decided to clean up my room instead, dust bunnies have been multiplying in my computer desk ever since I moved in late last year. I was quite surprised to find a lot of scrap paper lying about and managed to make a sort of bonfire capable pile in the corner of my room.And for that I used up the whole afternoon and by dinner I was sleepy again.lol...

term break!!!

the end of the 3rd term has come. Feels very fast,but of course this term was very relaxed.

We finally found out who our class administrator was,today,on the last day of college. It's Mr. CK of Perspective Studies...and we thought it would be Zhe Lin ,just that he's too shy to admit it all this time.The purpose of finally admitting his status was to vote for the class comittee,because for the rest of the 2 years we will be in TOA we won't have any more class administrators so the students have to take over instead.I guess in the end it was a good choice because that gave us enough time to know each other better.(although I still cannot remember half the class's names) So the new comittee is:

Monitor:Yip Sun
Vice Monitor:Tali
Treasurer:Yilyn
V. Treasurer:can't remember the guy's name,but his initials are KW...lol...
Secretary:me

The Fellowship of the Kulis:
(ten people,but the people whos names I remember are: )
Nisa
Simone
Andrew
Mark
Alex

I think the other 5 names must have included the only 2 other girls in my class because I remember there was a joke about Yip Sun wanting to form his little harem out of the comittee.

Also,today I went to Pyramid and stumbled upon a Fossil shop,so I went in to look at their Phillipe Starck watches.They're sexy,man.FYI Phillipe Starck is a well known product designer(the guy who designed the Louis ghost chair if you remember your HAD,also, Juicy Salif the lemon juicer).If I buy a really expensive watch I'd go for this.But it's only US$150.
