It's been a very tiring week. I thought that last week would be bad, but this week was even worse.Seems like everything is jammed into the same week. First there was a 90 page movie study to do(printing that costed RM117 btw.whee...). Then there was the 42 pages of storyboard to complete within like 2 days, which included planning all the camera angles,drawing them out  and description writing.(which i still have to draw a few pages to draw and edit). Then there was the mounting and submission for the TOSCARs competition.Also besides that there was the character rerendering and editing for an upcoming exhibition, but that's just the small stuff i did without lecturer's consent, in class this morning. The exhibition is supposed to be set up on the 1st next month, so i dunno, but seems like the people in charge might be pushing it a bit asking us to refine our material until so late. So i ended up skipping sleep 2 day of the week and cancelling music class altogether, because a)I didn't have time to practise at all that week.b) I didn't sleep the night before ,and c)that day was the day that I had too many things on my to do list. On top of that, I am now very behind in advanced 3D animation class. I still have to make half of my target models, rig them and create an expression test by next week, have only 1 more week to do the actual animation, and 1 more week(week #14, finally) to do the rendering for both the actual animation and the expression test.

And no, YenYen, rendering is not a cheating process.Rendering to Maya is like printing to Words documents.Except it's more time consuming and has more settings.

Besides that, I went to a talk about Teesside university in England. They didn't have any twinning for the course I wanted, which was Games Art, but I was told that I might have a chance of starting in the 2nd year instead, if my portfolio and the list of the animation subjects are sufficient.But if that course is what I think it is(character design and modeling), then I really hope that I can get into it, since I prefer the designing more than animation part of production.

Sigh...I dunno...my course is called animation but i discovered that I'm not that into moving stuff about...I'm still that person stuck inbetween animation and illustration after all.I guess it's partly because in Malaysia we have so few choices when it comes to art courses.But when I have to do animation, i feel a bit stressed whereas when I'm doing designing, I don't mind putting in extra hours voluntarily and doing more research than necessary, and really 'feeling' what I do, know what I mean?Not just doing it to meet the dateline.It's just all the talk about if you are in the art industry, you'll be doing what you want and it all being like a hobby to you, and me believing in that, and then finding out that might not be true after all. I don't really fancy ending up as some mass production animating slave for the rest of my life...

Random thought...

I was looking for dialogues from Moulin Rouge. Mostly because I couldn't understand some stuff some characters were saying. But then I stumbled upon Wikiquotes and ended up reading and looking for sentences I missed while watching.

I think the funniest sentence that I missed was one by the Narcoleptic Argentinian:
"The hills are incarnate with symphonic melodies!!!"

Oh man, I can just imagine the scriptwriter pulling out a thesaurus to rearrange those words.
The hills are alive with the sound of music.

Talk about overthinking you ideas. lol...

"World Builder", a short film by Bruce Branit.
I just watched it in class yesterday. Very nice. The storyline is simple but touching. Also, it's a good idea for a new videogame, or as Chris calls it, Maya of the future.

Of movie reviews and prostitutes

I just noticed, for our movie review project, while I'm covering the cabaret dancers at the Moulin Rouge in France, Tali is covering the geishas at the okiyas in Japan.

I think someone should cover the China dolls at the rumah papans in Pulau Ketam.

Sohs I went for the Popular stock clearance sale on Saturday. For those who don't know yet, Popular is having  sale from 13th March at Summit and MPH from 18th at the old LimKokWang building. I think.Dunno when they end though.

It was quite crowded, but popular being popular, more than half of the books were chinese.I overheard a few people saying they couldn't find anything worthwhile. Myself, I got 'A Thousand Splendid Suns' at 20% off and a collection of Studio Ghibli animations at 50% off which I didn't realise at the moment...I thought there was no discount, but the price was very good, RM36 for 14 animations, so I bought it.

Anyways, if anyone wants to borrow the cds, can ask me. whee...if only i can keep my hands off the cds myself and concentrate on doing assignments...

list of animations:

Totoro
Only yesterday
Whisper of the heart
Porco rosso
Kiki's delivery service
Laputa
Nausicaa
Sound of the ocean
Pom poko
Grave of the fireflies
Princess mononoke
Howl's moving castle
The cat return
The castle of cagliostro

You Are a Playwright

You are a highly literate wordsmith. You love both reading and writing.

You are also a natural storyteller. You can turn a mediocre anecdote into a riveting tale.

You find people and all aspects of life fascinating. No topic is off limits for you.

In modern times, you would make a good filmmaker or novelist.

Oh noez...entertainment where art thou?

First the library shut down. Dunno if they are moving or chap lup(how can...they are run by MPSJ one...)or loan shark come and attack them or what.Somemore just a few days before that I was thinking of visiting the library again cos I'm running out of books to re-read.

And then now Astro is liek emo-ing,cannot receive signal.I think something wrong with the whole condominium punya astro, but so far nobody repaired it.

Sohs i'm thinking should i go on a book buying spree? But now go recession and inflation etc should be saving money...I was thinking of buying the last 2 HP book. I only bought until #5 cos i was slowly loosing confidence in the series, plus when first come out the price very high. I think by now the price should be 1/3 of the original gua...

ish...i think i should go and find out online what happened to the library.Their selection is not great(their book series are usually not complete.And they should buy more recent books.), but at least have something.

~~~~~~
also besides that, i have to think of a nice movie to make a research folder for Christopher punya class.Must be nice one, cos have to watch many times over and scrutinise filmmaking details.Anything to recommend to me? Don't want animation animation kind of stuff one ar.
~~~~~~
One more thing...I'm thinking that I should learn more about other software during the holidays,After effects, ZBrush,Paint, etc.Wonder if I have enough time.Everytime during the term i feel like i don't have enough time to do self study.See...that's why DG students need exploration week. But no, we are the only major that has that privilege taken away *sobs dramatically*.Or maybe I should just stick to doing tons of character design since that's what I aim for later when i go out to work.Both also sound appealing and I need both a lot...what to do??? I think it's a good idea to send a petition to the universe asking for one day to become 48 hours long...
