Here are some home furnishing ideas I got from my folder of research pictures that I made for my college final project. I had a really good time looking for the pics, I think I'd really furnish my home like some of these pictures next time. The theme was antique, with a bit of country/nautical/ feminine/rustic touches.

Bed hangings.
Sexy and ruffled look, but still balances up with the neat railing. Rustic colour scheme and natural materials, but with a modern accent with the pendant lamp.

Tropical and breezy with slated wooden blinds and natural materials in browns against no-fuss white.Plants add a good contrast, with the leaves being the only cool colour in the furnishings.
A sweet wallpaper, with the pink theme sparingly echoed in the lamp.
My favourite, French country kitchens.Wooden beams with produce hung out to dry, stained wood, patchy walls, copper/cast iron pots and pans. Muted green complimenting the cheerful yellow colour scheme. Old world charm. Grandma's kitchen. Smells like warm soup and freshly baked cookies. Notice the bird cages which are used only to add interest, and the black cast iron pot holder hanging above the kitchen island.
A pleasingly cluttered kitchen.

Old world looks can be achieved with the absence of any synthetic material. No plastic or imitation stone. Even the clock is wooden. There is however an abundance of wood, glass, metal and ceramic, even in the kitchen utensils.
When wood is painted, it is only painted white, so it still looks natural. Notice the white roses in the bucket on the stools, and the skinny cast iron chandelier.
OK, maybe there's no need for a fireplace in Malaysia, but the idea of a feature wall is useful for a TV set instead. A narrow strip of highly textured, boldly coloured material to contrast with a plainer wall.

Nowadays there are a lot of Chinese 'antique' furniture being sold. Having 1 feature antique item can make a nice contrast without making the whole house look either frumpy or eerie.
Or go for something different. How about a writing bureau used as a side table or computer desk?
Nostalgic and sweet, antiques with signs or wear are gaining popularity. (Either restored antiques or new items with simulated wear marks). It somehow still looks clean and in working order because of it's whitewashed appearance.
A modern take on a chandelier, which would be at home in a classy bar or jazz club.
Feature items to add interest to the home. A large free standing dressing mirror.
A gramophone. I'm pretty sure there are some that look like gramophones on the outside but play cds. These things are so pretty...
If you are a fan of fruits, using said fruits as a centrepiece on the dining table is a good idea too.
Some key holders which I think are pretty cool. This one is magnetic.
This one holds keys by a slot.
Ideas for plants. Not many people put plants in the house in Malaysia, but I think as long as you don't put floating plants inside the house, it's ok(Or change the water now and then...you know...mosquitos...).I like this wine barrel look.
Or an old-school pail. Why do we even use those ugly plastic ones nowadays?
This is more of an 'outdoor party' thing, but I think it looks charming. Tea candles hanging from trees. This is before they invented fairy lights.
Flower vases. Not very practical to upkeep, but here are some pretty vases I found online. This one reminds me of perfume bottles.
