Today has been...very hot. It was probably in the 30s around afternoon, so not such a good day to walk about. And the sky is cloudless, so the only thing you can do is walk on whichever side of the street with shade from the buildings. But either way I managed to check out the farmer's market near Ferry Building. Didn't take any pictures though. They sell organic produce there, as well as artisan cheese, coffee, and other foodstuff.Hot meals too, which was quite popular with the lunch crowd. But the prices weren't exactly cheap, I guess it's probably cheap if you compare it to other organic food, but it's still cheaper to buy the mass produced stuff. There was a small craft market opposite the road as well, selling mostly handmade jewellery.
Opposite the Ferry building is the Justin Herman Plaza, which has this piece of artwork in the centre. It's pretty pleasant in the hot weather, when you can walk around the structure and it's cooling, only that the water is very dirty and smelly
From Justin Herman Plaza, I went up to Portsmouth Square, in Chinatown. Actually there wasn't much to see there. It's usually crowded with Chinese old folk come to sit in the shade or play chinese checkers. It has a few commemorative statues around too.
An interesting building I passed on the way. The advertisement is so old school. They should preserve stuff like this.
The Robert Louis Stevenson statue in Portsmouth square. I read online that he used to spend a lot of time in the square.
Birds sitting in the shade. So cute.
Other than that, I've been reading links from the uni's website to find cheap or free places to go and things to see around the city. Apparently AAU students can enter the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art free, whereas the public pays $18. Most other museums and galleries are free on certain days of the month, although they may get very crowded. Also, there are a few music performances coming up around the city, so those will be good to go to.
But other than that, i see quite a few public parks around the city, where the locals just go and fall asleep under a tree. Maybe I should bring a sketchbook and sit and draw the buildings around
